Elliot Gleave, better known as British singer and rapper Example, has completed his first UK Arena Tour with SSE Hire supplying a K1 system.
The tour of 12 UK cities in April 2012, supported by Wretch 32, follows a successful European tour.
SSE Audio Group provided an L'Acoustics K1 line array system with KARA and ARCS plus SB28 subs. The PA was supplemented by VDOSC for the O2 Arena.
SSE provided an extensive control and monitors package for the tour, with a 64 channel Soundcraft Vi6 used to mix at front of house and a Midas PRO9 used on monitors.
Front of house engineer Sam Parker with system tech Mark Pantlin piloted the Vi6 while Will Nicholson was monitor engineer.
Example's music is "modern, full on and in your face" says Sam. "The whole show fits into two layers on the desk. We use most of the 64 channels, including 48 inputs and all the returns."
Sam says he is a big fan of the desk's layout. "Ergonomically, it just suits me. The compression and EQ are excellent and the fact that it has a de-esser is a bonus, as of course are the user-definable scenes."
Also used were two Waves PuigChild hardware compressors - one of these exciting units on each desk. Both engineers and Elliot Gleave himself enthused the new unit: "It just makes things sound better."
Sam Parker is one of a number of sound engineers introduced to Soundcraft's digital consoles by SSE Hire. SSE's senior project manager, Miles Hillyard has appreciated their virtues since the manufacturer first stepped into the digital world.
"As soon as the Vi6 came out we pushed it and it became very popular very quickly" says Hillyard.
