SSE Audio Group has recently completed the installation of a sound system in a student union bar and adjacent areas at Birmingham University Guild of Students.

The main system, installed in a new bar area, is based on NEXO PS8 and PS15 speakers and matching subs, powered by Camco Vortex amplifiers.

Beyond the bar, Electro Voice EVID 4.2 surface mount speakers have been installed, supplying full-range audio to a new outdoor terrace area and a square set with picnic tables, plus a foyer area. These are powered by Australian Monitor amplifiers.
Each of the areas are controlled by a BSS Soundweb London BLU-100, via a panel customised by SSE Audio and situated behind the bar.
During the day, the system is used for background music, with a Media server suppling music and video to the venue, integrated via the Soundweb BLU.
In the evening, a complete DJ system takes over, comprising four Pioneer CDJ900s alongside other playback equipment and mixed with Pioneer DJM5000 and DJM800 DJ mixers.
All amplifiers and the controller are installed into a 36U SSE custom installation rack, with power distributed by two SSE 2U 32A power distribution boxes.
To keep costs manageable for the Students Union, most of the main speaker system was supplied from SSE's extensive ex-hire stock. The installation was completed in April 2010.
Released on 15th May 2010 (Ref. GP/RW)
