UB40 and the expanding set

SSE Risers

SSE Hire has provided sound services to British band UB40 for over 25 years. For more than ten years, the band has also used SSE's risers and set services.

UB40 regularly use a standard set format that varies little, but can be adapted to fit the considerable range of venues and festivals where the band performs.

The set comprises of five riser areas. The three highest areas are at a height of 4ft and linked together. The central area provides stepped tiers down to 9 inches high. The front two areas are simple 8ft x 8ft risers at 2ft high.

The overall width of the set can be reduced or increased to fit the venues on the tour.

The front risers can also be adapted to a rolling format, so they can move to make room for a support act, or the whole set can be rolling for use in festival situations.

This flexibility has been achieved with minimum hassle using SSE Riser's experience and expertise; one of the factors why UB40 return to SSE year after year, with the confidence that they will get whatever they need for any venue they play.

In 2007 UB40 took out the largest set to date for an arena tour. This comprised of an enlarged version of their usual set with the addition of a dropped stage thrust and walkways built to fit over the PA subs.
