SSE London debut in Bloomsbury
Following the acquisition of audio contract rental company Tarsin Entertainment last autumn, SSE London has completed its first full installation - for the Vince Power Music Group (VPMG)’s Bloomsbury Ballroom.
This impressive 1920s grand art-deco ballroom has been extensively refurbished and now plays host to an array of live music and other events. It is below street level with a huge wooden sprung dance floor and high ceiling demanding a loud and crisp sound system to do justice to the wide variety of acts planned.
A line array system was installed by SSE London based on Nexo Geo-S and powered by Camco amplifiers. Mixing is provided by a Midas Verona console with Square One outboard. DJ Gear was supplied by Allen & Heath and Pioneer.
The sound installation also covers a number of other bar areas and rooms with a mixture of wall mounted and ceiling speakers. These are configured so any audio source can be routed to any area.
The specification for this installation was geared to cabaret style acts. However, by installing a line system very similar to the type that SSE Hire use for their touring systems, a more complex and extensive monitor system can be brought in, plugging straight into the house line system.
The installation posed two main challenges. Firstly, as a listed building considerable care was required to conserve the fabric of the building, with over a 1000 metres of Oxygen free cable used. Secondly, the upper floors of the building are fully inhabited offices, so all drilling and other noisy installation work had to be done out of hours.
But the result is well worth it, with an installation that befits such a grand and prestigious venue.
