SSE tours Deep Purple and Oasis with Lake Contour

SSE Audio Group has recently increased its investment in Lake Contour processing for loudspeaker management and overall system control. Their latest purchase of six Pro26D Contours from UK Distributor Out Board brings SSE’s Lake inventory to a total of eight units, deployed across a variety of tours using different speaker system configurations.

Four Contours went out as loudspeaker management and system EQ/delay initially on Canadian Michael Boublé’s “It’s Time” European tour, featuring SSE Hire’s recent new L-Acoustics V-Dosc and dV-Dosc acquisitions. A further four units were assigned to EQ and delay zone control on the Oasis tour, specified by FOH engineer Bruce Johnson for use with SSE Hire’s Nexo Geo-T Line array system

SSE Hire’s latest outing for their new L-Acoustics system has been the European tour of rock legends Deep Purple, with four Contours providing loudspeaker management for a unique hybrid of L-Acoustics line arrays and Nexo subbass elements, under the supervision of systems engineer Gert Sanner supporting Purple’s FOH engineer Doug Hall. The tour has principally been playing arena-scale venues, and also featured Alice Cooper as special guest during the German shows.

Gert Saner’s arena configuration for Deep Purple has one Contour running V-Dosc lo/mid/high for the main hangs, with a second providing biamped left and right dV-Dosc underhang mixes plus brickwall-filtered feeds to Nexo CD18 subbass cabinets.

A third Contour drives a pair of dV-Dosc sidehangs combined with Nexo Alpha subs, all fed in reversed-stereo with respect to the main V-Dosc system to provide some image spread in the stage-side audience areas.

The fourth Contour takes matrix mixes from the console and distributes them to a center dV-Dosc system and subbass array.

SSE Hire Manager Rich Rowley comments: “We had very positive experiences using the Lakes for EQ and delay zone control over the 2005 summer festival season, our engineers like the flexibility of the software and the clean sound of the units. Our recent L-Acoustics purchases were specifically intended to give SSE another very premium, rider-friendly system to offer our clients, so Lake was clearly the obvious way forward for speaker management”
