Bastille formed in 2010, initially as a solo project by frontman Dan Smith. He was later joined by keyboard player Kyle Simmons, drummer Chris Wood and Will Farquarson on guitar and bass. The band have gone from strength to strength, releasing their first number one album Bad Blood in 2013. In September 2016, they released their second studio album Wild World before embarking on the UK and European tour.
The band's continued growth and success means this latest tour required arena venues to meet demand. Bastille were already established clients of SSE Hire, who were once again called upon for sound reinforcement for the 22 dates. SSE Project Manager Dan Bennett and System Tech Pertu Korteniemi designed an L-Acoustics K1/K2 system for the tour that could be scaled up or down as necessary for each venue.
The main PA hangs comprises L-Acoustics K1 with L-Acoustics K2 underhangs. L-Acoustics K1SB cabinets are flown directly behind the main hangs to increase the throw of the sub bass to the rear of the arena. Outhangs of L-Acoustics K1 and K2 were deployed to give the whole system good 180° coverage.
Perttu Korteniemi explained, "We worked with Bastille's FOH Engineer Paul Cooper to ensure the system design suited his mixing style. Using L-Acoustics Soundvision software we assertained the right box count for each venue, then it was just a case of working with Show Designer Rob Sinclair to ensure the system was placed to maximise sightlines at each arena."
L-Acoustics KS28 used on their end as a centre sub arc.
SSE used L-Acoustics K2 as delays for the larger arenas.. The LA-Rak amp racks were flown as part of the array, greatly reducing the amount of cabling required.

..... customised of course!
Bastille's monitor engineer Ben Kingman mixed the entirely IEM monitor setup on one of SSE Hire's newly upgraded Midas PRO X consoles. Monitor tech Chris Speirs commented, "The Midas Pro range already offered flexibility for monitors that no other leading console could offer, with the expanded channel count of the Neutron engine it's now even better."
There were no monitors or fills on stage, all performers were fitted out with IEM systems.
